Hello everyone! I'm newbie brewer (though this first time didn't go so well if you've seen my first thread) and all around beer lover. Currently in Virginia, though I'm a Texan always.

I'm an IT by trade and no, don't want to fix your computer for free before anyone asks. :)

I joined today initially just for some advice on my first batch that may (or may not) have gone bad. What I did not expect was the overwhelming amount of responses I receive with more advice than I was ready for. Considering that, it seems I have to stay now.

My first batch was a gallon of Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. Next I'm thinking I should keep it simple and do a single malt, single hop pale ale. Any advice on that would be appreciated.

And just because...

Take any recipe in the Pale Ale or IPA section of the recipe subforum, strip out all the specialty grains, replace with an equal portion of the base malt. Make all hop additions your favorite hop. Blam. SmaSH. Mine looked like this:
11 lbs. 2 row, mashed at 154 for 60 minutes.
1 oz. Cascade @ 60
1 oz. Cascade @ 30
1 oz. Cascade @ 15
1 oz. Cascade @ Flameout
1 oz. Cascade Dry Hop 4 Days

Bottled it last night and it tastes great.

If you're brewing extract, go crazy and get the Marris Otter extract. Blam SMeSH.

Have fun, RDWHAHB (Or any B), and welcome to your new addiction/obsession/hobby. It will consume your life before you even get a decent beer out of it.
