I'm doing research around the web for a good starter kit for my Nephew.

I'm looking for something that looks quality, instead of just plastic buckets.
Something that has items in it, that will be used over and over, and not out grown in a month. Something quality, that can be added on to.

I'm looking around 160.00. What would you all buy in this price range?

Thxs!

There are many brewing kits around that price. I know Northern Brewer has this kit http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/...-starter-kits/deluxe-brewing-starter-kit.html . You have the choice of upgrading to glass carboys instead of the plastic Better Bottles, but you would still need to buy a 5g stainless steel pot that could cost around 40-50 depending on where you get it.

Midwest Supplies has this kit http://www.midwestsupplies.com/brewing-basics-plus-kit.html . You might be able to find decent brewing equipment on Craigslist for cheap like I did.

AHS has this kit, plus you can custom make one for what you need!http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_33_52&products_id=12921

Either way you go, I'm sure your nephew will be stoked.

Thxs, i have been reading those 3 sites, looks like about the same kits, same price. I guess it boils down to who offers the best mix kit out of the three?

Glass carboys will break so consider that. It is rare but really sucks when they do. I never used a fermentation bucket but maybe you should consider it, they seem to work well.

Midwest Supply's kit assortment is quite extensive and is a good way to check out various brews in a learning curve.
