Hey I just made my first batch of beer not to long ago. Like a few hours. It was a caribou slobber. I have it in my Carboy right now and pitched the yeast. The thermostat on the Carboy says it's somewhere around 74 to 76 degrees. Is this going to be ok to ferment? I am using liquid yeast.

Thanks!

I would like to know this also.

i have this kit on the way, wyeast says fermenting temp for (im assuming Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale) should be 65-75. i would say try to move it so a little cooler place so it can maintain around 70 or so just to be safe. the wort may still be radiating heat depending on how much you cooled it after the boil so it might come down over the next few hours

I cant find somewhere that is any cooler. any ways to cool it? it was around 80 degrees when i poured it in. and waited till it was around 76 to pitch the yeast.

It will turn into beer, but to make it the best I would try to cool it down to around 70. If you don't, it still should be good and tasty.

sounds like you should be fine you are not going to kill the yeast a the current temp and based on your guess of room temp it should come down. you probably still have some heat left over from the boil and it will creep down to about room temp. i would say wait and check it in a few hours or tomorrow morning.

For what it's worth, I would consider a long primary (3 wks to 1 mo.) to give the yeast a chance to clean up after itself. The warmer temps may give your beer a bubble gum off flavor, but yeast will generally clean up after themselves if you give them enough time.

do you have an empty shower or a large bucket that the fermenter would fit in? you could try to swamp cooler it. take a towel or shirt and get it a little wet.(spray bottles work) and then put a fan blowing on it. it can cool it down significantly

I use a fan and put a wet t-shirt over the carboy to cool things down swamp cooler style when necessary.
