I have yet to start, but I just wanted to say hi. I'm waiting to buy my equipment. After I pay the Summer taxes, I expect to have a few hundred to spend, so I'm just checking out the different kits out there.
 
I took the plunge and ordered the super delux kit from Austin Homebrew. I got the
AHS Mild Ale as my first batch. Can't wait to get started.
 
One thing I would do is pick up a copy of John Palmers book "How to Brew"
This is the best book I ever read about brewing.
