just learning to brew from a buddy of mine. looking to brew a clone of karl strauss oktoberfest. any recipes similar to my fav beer? or recipes to similar brew?

Oktoberfest is a lager beer. Do you have a fermentation fridge with temperature controller or other means to keep the beer at ~55ish degrees, followed by extended lagering at <40 degrees?

If you don't, definitely look for an ale for your first beer. They are quicker and easier to make. It's even possible to brew an ale version of an Oktoberfest (sometimes these are called Mocktoberfest in our community) and taste reasonably close to the lagered version.

unfort i dont have to means to keep the beer at that specific temp but def curious as to making a "mocktoberfest". any recipes? and have you ever brewed an ale version of a oktoberfest? thanks for replying.

Don't be afraid to go lager for your first brew if you have the energy and excitement to do it.

My first was an Oktoberfest as well, and even though I messed a bunch of things up, it turned out great. In fact, every single person chose my beer over a popular Oktoberfest in a blind tasting by family and friends.

This is a very popular recipe for an ale Oktoberfest clone. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f63/biermunchers-oktoberfast-ale-ag-39021/

I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.
