Hi so im brand new to brewing. ive in the middle of making a hard apple juice as a first run so we will see how that turns out. soon i will be buying a starter kit from a local brew shop. and i was wondering what is a good first beer to start with to get familiar with the basics. any recommendations?

Honestly man, get a kit that represents the beers you most enjoy. If Pale Ale's or Kolsch's are your thing, then definitely go that route. You want to make beer you will want to drink, and see how yours is different. Good luck!

Most beer kits are pretty easy so the choice is to match the beer you like to drink with some reservations. Making a lager requires being able to ferment at much cooler temperatures than ales. Dark beers take longer to mature and get good tasting than lighter ones.

I'd probably start with a simple brown ale or red ale because the flavors will help mask any off flavors that you might get with a first brew.

+1 to the ales. They are very forgiving. Just follow the instructions included with the kit and you'll be fine.

One of the first brews I did and it was amazing. It was a kit from Williams brewing. Saison man do a saison. Sooo good. You will be impressed by an extract kit. :D cheers "

Any ale kit would be good.

Really I have found every kit is pretty easy. Get what you like to drink.

hm aight. i love ales so ill try that first. thanks for the suggestions guys. im sure ill post about how it went. wish me luck!
