I did my third AG batch this past weekend. The first was a unmitigated disaster. The second went much better and the third went pretty good. My question is this. When you use 170 deg F sparge water what is the expected temperature of the sweet liquor coming out of hte lauter tun??? Should it also be at 170 deg or something less?

I never check that temp but I am pretty positive it is going to be less. Maybe just a few degrees.

The idea is to use 170 degree water (or even a little higher) so that the grainbed is around 168 degrees. The temperature of the runnings will be a little less, I'm sure, but I've never measured it. I keep a thermometer in the grain bed though, to watch it. You don't want the grainbed over 170 degrees, and anything less than about 162 or so may give you less efficiency.
