New Pump, 1" NTP -- suggestions?

Hey guys,

I'm still in the process of gathering equipment for my all grain setup.
I was able to come across a Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC, which should work pretty well for brewing.

The inlet/outlet is 1.00" FNPT/1.0" MNPT and I'm a little unsure what to do. Should I try and find a 1" to 1/2" nipple or reducer (haven't been able to find one yet), and then mount a standard 1/2" ball valve? The few SS 1" ball valves I've found are crazy expensive, and I still haven't found any 1" to 1/2" barbed fittings for the tubing.

Any help would be appreciated.

you can get a 1'X1/2" bushing at home depot, lowe's or any plumbing supply house.

I'm pretty sure the pump is 3/4 npt. Mine is. But you can get a brass adapter at HD.

I have a LG 5.5-MD-HC and used a 1" MPT to a 1/2" FPT bushing. I think I got it at brewers hardware but I can't find it on their site now (although they have 1" butterfly valves in stock)...

Since most brewpot or MT outlets are 1/2" and flexible tubing larger than that is expensive and/or hard to come by, most step down all their pump ports to 1/2" In/Out. You just have to learn the sweet spot for tweaking the flow restricting valve on the outlet side so you aren't creating suction on the inlet side.

edit: Now that I think about it, I believe I got my SS fittings at http://bargainfittings.com/

If you think having to reduce from 1" is bad... My Little Giant pump has 5/8" inlet/outlet, aka the "bastard child of plumbing".

Finding a 1/2" to 5/8" reducer for a therminator was tough (drillspot had it, fyi).
