My family and I went house shopping this weekend.
I've been designing small fermentation chambers in my head for a year now. I am all about consistent results, so I wanted to stabilize my temps (especially after my recent batch of Tripel dropped from 76 to 64 in a little over avday's time). I've been planning on buying a used freezer, or fridge, or building a small insulated chamber, or doing something else.
This weekend, however, the third house we looked at had a little room off of the basement. When we looked inside the room, my wife said: "Hey, you could put all your beer in here to ferment".
WHAT?!
How could she know my dreams? Is she just tired of my beer in the coat closet, bedroom closet, and laundry room? Or is she really that intuitive? Don't answer that... I'm going to assume she just loves me and my beer (ahem).
Well, we didn't buy that house. Every house afterward, though, she kept mentioning a little room here or a little room there in which I could ferment my treasures.
When we finally found "the house", the old coal room is sealed off from outside world, has no windows, is insulated, and is a good 20 degrees cooler than the rest of the house right now. She said it would my fermentation room. I'm ecstatic!
Now, I just need the STC 1000 and a space heater, as I don't think I'm going to need to cool it unless I start lagering. I'm a Belgian yeast fantatic, however, so I think it may be awhile before I take that step.
The only problem... the sump pump is there. Think that will cause problems I haven't thought of?
