Hey guys!

I'm super new.... like I just now bought my first couple buckets, siphon, and whatnot. Not really sure what i'm doing just yet but hoping to get a first batch going tonight!

Any other Hoosiers out here? I would love to get with some people to learn what I can!

-Michael

I live in arkansas now but came from northern indiana.
I don't claim to know everything but you can PM me any questions you have.
Also i happen to have a buddy in indy there whom might be interested in helping you on brew days.

I'm from Indy myself. Been doing this a while. If u have questions you can PM me. New to this forum as well...

Welcome to brewing and to the forum!

This forum, coupled with the extremely knowledgeable staff at Great Fermentations, you'll get most answers you need.

I have zero time to join a brewing club and barely enough to make it to Friday Night Club (2nd Friday of every month) at Great Fermentations, but those are additional good social and learning resources.

You guys all rock, sorry for the late reply. Been a fairly busy weekend! Got a meed in the fermenter right now as a kind of first swing at this. Hoping to get a beer going soon tho, do any of you have experience with doing all grain brews on a stove top? I've seen a couple that involve boiling the mash in a bag, and considering the higher quality offered by that instead of extract, I think I want to give it a run!

I have brewed a few all grain on the stove top, just takes longer than a turkey fryer. Be careful of over boil, else you will be cleaning up a sticky mess. Also i have been impressed with extract brews, i do some occasionally still.

I might start off with an extract brew, but i'm eager to start learning more about the control you can have over a brew using all grain.

Mike,

I'm from Indy myself. Grew up there, I'm a Hoosier at heart, but my college allegiance is to the Bulldogs. While I'm really no help to you here in Georgia now, but Indy has a pretty good homebrew community. I'm sure there's plenty of groups/clubs in the area as well as local events. I have a friend that just entered a bunch of homebrews in the State Fair competition.

Good luck, and when you fall in love with home brewing and start to upgrade your equipment (which rest assured you will) make sure to check Craigslist. I routinely peruse CL in Indy for things I need because there's way more than what I find here in Augusta.

A mead..your first shot? Ambitious! Cheers to you man. For your first brew in a bag AG batch I'd suggest a blond ale. Taste great, less filling. lol. Seriously though...super easy to make and a lot of ways you can twist it to taste.

Cheers!
