Just bottled a batch of Baron`s Amber Ale. My first brewing in a number of years. This site has some very helpful information and some confusing terms but I`m sure I`ll get better educated as I go along. Two weeks to go before I crack open the Amber. I`m getting really thirsty! :)
Cheers all,
Joe.

Thanks, Bradsul. Seems to be a fair number of us signing on. Do you get Clancey`s Amber Ale in Ontario? It`s my favourite store beer.
Cheers,
Joe.

It`s Baron`s kit which consists of a 7.5 litre container of wort, package of yeast, hops and a packet of some sort of protein buster(?). You pour the wort into your primary, top it up, wait for the temperature to stabilise, add the yeast and hops, then let it ferment. real simple. My next kit will be something I can modify a bit.

So, we're all here now. Let's talk about the Americans. What's with that 'yall' thing anyway?

joconn, you should put your location in your profile so we can recognize you as one of 'us' when you post. Somehow the posts from fellow Canadians seem more relevent, especially when they pertain to equipment purchases.

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you.

Yup, just what we need. I used to live in Dartmouth. My Dad lived in Truro and joined the forces from there.

Nothing wrong with Maritimers. Good, hardy people and always friendly.

I've not tried the Amber ale but I actually just bought a 4 pack of the Red. It just started showing up at the LCBO (province run liquor store) about a month ago. Hopefully their other stuff will be carried soon as well. It was a pretty nice red; I've been meaning to get a red recipe put together so I may go for something similar.

Speaking of purchases, has anyone else noticed how paddockwood's selection has tailed off? I used to rely on them for the stuff my LHBS didn't stock and now I can't get some of what used to be my standard ingredients (Belgian biscuit malt being my major vexation).

I've also been dying to try a brew with rye malt - which they no longer carry. My LHBS will get it for me but only in a full 25KG sack. :(

Yeah. Been looking for safbrew T-58 for months. Now it;s not even available in bricks.

Damn, Canada really needs more online retail. We seem behind in that department yet ahead in most other internet stuff.

Wish there was a large all encompassing online HBS like Northernbrewer but CANADIAN.

I'd been toying with the idea of starting one but I think the problem is there just isn't enough market for it up here with perishable products like we use.

Brad -- I just talked with Todd at Skinaney in Ottawa -- he has lots of rye malt.

I also asked Brandi at Paddock Wood if they would get it in -- she replied "Not unless you will buy a pallet of it." I have to say, I am getting tired of them. I wish there was just ONE good online homebrew shop in Canada. :(

While tempting I'm not sure how I would store a pallet of malt in my apartment. :D

Skinaney also has the 5.2 buffer I've been wanting to get. I looked through their website but it isn't a standard ecommerce website, how do you order from them?

I just sent them an email. Todd replied right away. Really nice guy. He bent over backwards trying to get the shipping costs down since I live so far away. I think he will just take a credit card number over the phone when you have your order assembled.
