New false bottom! New dip tube! couple questions.

So I have my converted keggle, bulkhead and fittings, and now my false bottom and dip tube. first of all Im *pumped* to get this stuff together and in use, but I want to make sure I install correctly.

My main concern is how do you guys get the false bottom out once you have the dip tube through? Do you just turn the dip tube counter clockwise? do you push down on the false bottom until the dip tube comes out?

How far is your dip tube from actually touchign down in the center of your keggle/kettle? I was thinking low as possible.

I'm assuming you use a metal bit to drill a hole in the FB?

Any other considerations? I'd like this to be easy to take apart/clean.

My false bottom has a hinge in the middle so I can fold it and lift it out. My dip tube actually almost touches the bottom of the keggle. I cut some slots in the tube near the end so I do not loose suction.

Down, I simply lift it by the hole for the dip tube.

ok, so how are you able to get your diptube out of the hole?

My dip tube is a two piece configuration and uses a pipe union to connect the halves. When installed, it holds the FB firmly in place. To remove you just loosen the union and pull it out. The dip tube end is about 1/2" off of the bottom of the kettle. Here's a not so pretty pic of the business half of it. The other half I leave in place in the kettle. The part not shown has the other half of the pipe union attached. The configurations for various kettles and FB vary considerably, so it all depends on what you are working with.

Mine is just like Catt22's except I use a Stainless Steel dip tube and a stainless steel Swagelok Compression fitting (I have a generous wife).

Hmm, I like that setup, but my diptube is a one piece setup that goes directly to the bulkhead. I'm curious what one with a similar setup would do in my case.

After doing more research, I think I'm going to end up going with a compression fitting, and cut my dip tube in half (maybe even get a 90° compression elbow if I can find one) I'm assuming it doesn't matter if I got stainless or brass. This method will likely give best results for my setup. I'll post pictures when I'm finished

That's a compression fitting.
