Hello there. just looking for someone to tell me if there are anything a I should worry about with this recipe I made. I'm including the hop additions only. I'm making an ipa.
60 min cascade 1.0 oz
30 min cascade 1.0 oz
Amarillo 1.0 oz
0 min Amarillo 0.5 oz
Simcoe 1.5 oz
Citra 2.0 oz
Dry hop simcoe 3.0 oz
This is all for a 5 gallon recipe

Yep that will work, its a bit low on bittering additions for my liking but probably not a bad starting point for a new brewer.

Are the 1.5oz Simcoe 2oz Citra additions at flameout? If so, I would use some of those to dry hop as well, just for some more variety than just using simcoe. Overall it looks good, like ol-hazza said, it looks a bit low on the 60 minute addition. With all those flameout additions, it's going to have loads of hop flavors and aroma.

I would switch the 1 oz of cascades at the 60 min with 1 ounce of simcoe at dry hopping. It's good to get some variety^^^ and simcoe hops are high alpha so that would help your bittering.

Okay so the 30 minute additions are cascade and amarillo correct? A quick plug in for an extract with just the 30 and 60 minute additions is almost 50ibus. I believe that's adequate for bitterness.

I personally would do a 5 minute addition in there somewhere. Maybe cut out the flame out just a bit.

Is this extract(3 gallon boil with top off water) or all grain(full volume)?

totally depends on if you want a bitter IPA or a hoppy ipa (or both) PERSONALLY, i think your bittering additions are great. I prefer more hope flavor ad aroma in my IPA vs just a bitter beer.

I might change it a little to add at least a 10 or 15 min addition as well just for more hop pop but it really comes down to what you are trying to create.

Yes it's a 5gal extract brew. I'm going with 7lbs ultralight lme and 1.5 lbs of crystal 40l

Thank you everyone for the help. I'm brewing tomorrow and I think you guys are spot on. Shifting a little to the bittering and adding variety to my dry hop should help my beer out greatly. Thanks again.

Just remember that you can increase the amount of water in your boil and increase your bitterness. Check out a calculator and see what the difference is between a 3 gallon boil and a 4 gallon boil. You'll be surprised.

Brew day is done. I spread out my additions and I think I'm happy with the results. Dry hop in a few days with a little taste. Will update.
