I have done 1 ag brew from a recipe and I thought I would try a quick take on one of my favorite styles, Brown Ale. I have not used any software for this but I researched the different ingredients and came up with a draft recipe, any feedback is appreciated.

UAB Nut Brown Ale
8 lb Maris Otter
1 lb Aromatic
.5 lb Crystal 60
.25 lb Chocolate Malt
.5 lb Carapils
.5 lb Oatmeal
(I am thinking the carapils and oatmeal is redundant?)

.5 oz Nugget
.5 oz Williamette

Wyeast London Ale

Thanks!

I think that I'd use either carapils or oatmeal. the oatmeal could be nice although I am not sure that you need either. Looks tasty though!

Hi,
I ran this through BeerSmith - assumed a full boil for the hops (60 min), and removed the oatmeal.

It came out a bit high on the OG (1.057, vice around 1.048 for the style). Personally I would cut down the aromatic which can be very strong - to about 1/2 lb and perhaps cut a half pound or pound of pale malt out.

The IBUs were a shade low, so perhaps just a touch more hops. I'm not a huge fan of Nugget for English brown, and would probably go with Northdown or a Goldings (in slightly more quantity to make up for the alpha), but its a matter of preference.

Other than that things look great - good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Last night I downloaded the trial version of your software and came up with a slightly different recipe than what I posted (the software was great and I will be buying it for my next LHBS visit).
