Hopefully this is the right forum...

I have a friend getting married soon, and I'd like to get them a GOOD bottle of wine and whiskey. He like whiskey (and wine...) and she likes wine. I can throwdown $100/each.

What's everyone like for a high end bottle? I don't drink much of either anymore so I really don't know what to get. I'm thinking the wine should be a red, and probably already aged (if it needed it). Can you get good aged Bordeaux's for under $100? I remember having a nice Sauternes back in school as well...I think that might suit them as well.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for the help...I figure you guys would be the ones to know about this stuff ;)

Well, I'm one for Spanish red wines, grab something from the Rioja Reigon, a 'rioja gran reserva' A good year is 1996. Usually anything above the reserva is above my price range, but I've had good luck with estates from Bodegas Muga and Marqués de Murrieta. I have had the Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 1998, which was just awesome.
