Ok, so I planted 2 jumbo rhyzomes about 30 feet apart. I know I should have bought about a dozen but I decided to start small. So each rhyzome has maybe 4 or 5 "bines" climbing up two ropes. My question is: how many bines from each rhyzome should I be trying to grow? I know that the each group of bines is sharing the same root system, so should I limit the number of bines by pruning? I got a really late start growing these, so they are only about 3-4 feet high now. Suggestions?

Let your first year plants grow as much as they can/want. You can prune next year.

+1 I'm on my first year hops as well and this is what I've always been told. I'm just letting them go crazy.

The only trimming that I did on my first years was to take the leaves off from ground level to 12-16" up.
