So SWMBO won an item, Paid for it, then gets an email from the seller saying it was the wrong size listed and could she paypal another $10. the starting bid was .99 and there was no reserve.

What think you guys and girls?

I said no, it is the sellers bust to let an auction run 5 days on the wrong size item without changing it. Since there was no reserve price, it is on them, I can't even find sympathy (the item could have sold for .99).

I am trying to believe it is not a scam to get more $, but can't help thinking that by only asking for $10 more dollars they figured She'd just say OK and give it to them.

Yep. The sell HAS to sell it. She should tell them to sell it in good faith or she'll report it to eBay as well as give a scathing feedback.

Another way would be to tell the seller that her bid was wrong and was 10 bucks too high and if she wanted to sell it, it would be for 10 dollars less.

Yes, it sure sounds like a scam to me. Your wife and the seller entered into an agreement to sell the listed item for your wife's winning bid. Anything else would be violating that agreement.

That's ridiculous. I'd only pay what the winning price was, and after the item was received, write a review regarding what happened.

Ah, the old bait-and-switch routine has made it to ebay. Don't pay anyting else report the seller to ebay and paypal if they won't make good.

I'd report it to paypal and ebay because they didnt fulfill the contract that you paid for. Its their problem if they let it run to term at the wrong size.

Unless I'm mistaken, the seller is legally bound to sell it to her for the agreed price. If the seller refuses to honor the conditions of the sale, report it to ebay, the BBB, and of course, pay pal. At the very LEAST you should get you payment back IN FULL. And if I were you, I'd post this story & the crook's info EVERYWHERE.
