Hey All,

I don't know if it's a contradiction, but i'm looking at brewing a beer which has both a high alcohol content and a some flavor. What style of beer would be good for me? I was looking at a style in promash called 'english strong ale'.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you guys can offer.

To give you guys an idea of my motivation, it's pretty much just to knock my friends on their asses when they drink the stuff. I tend to go for flavorful beers. Who cares about alcohol content when you can just drink more of 'em. :mug:
 
It is always fun to see your friends that are used to drinking ~4-5% cheap beers try to drink the same amount of a much stronger ale!!
 
Just so you're aware, as a rule of thumb, for high ABV beers, 1 point of ABV usually requires 1 month of conditioning.

Apfelwine clocks in at 8.5 - 9 and only takes about 5 weeks.

Can I get some clarification on this? Above what ABV do you need to start aging one month per point? I am drinking my 5% pale ales within a month always (maybe a bit green?). I'll assume you are talking about 9-10% "big" beers.

I've always found double IPA's to be both malty and high in alcohol and sometimes very complex with all sorts of different flavors. Of course Strong ales and barleywines have the same effect too. Experiement and have fun:mug:
 
Double IPAs
Belgian Treppels
Barleywines

The Double IPAs probably take the least aging, as they depend on the hop profile for much of their flavors.
