Newbie Here,

I don't consider myself as a sophisticated taster, or an enthusiast in beers, however, always appreciated drinking descent beer.

Unfortunately, due to work reasons, I'm currently stuck in a country where manufacturing and consuming(both purchasing and drinking) alcohol is strictly prohibited and yes, I'm suffering badly. To give you a hint, this place is very hot, deserted and well known for petroleum.

Thus for my next vacation in July to my home country, I will try to sneak in some recipe kits and equipment that I can fit in my suitcase (large items such as pot, fermenter, bottling buckets etc. will be compensated with items I can find here) for some home brewing, or should I say alcohol production experience.
(please don't get me wrong, as I do admire you enthusiasts' craftsmanship)

Sorry for the long introduction....

Only problem I seem to face at this moment is the bottles.

I've been collecting some 900ml glass juice bottles with wire bail flip lids, though I've read some threads that those lids does not provide good seal for bottle priming.

Every so-called "Malt Beverage"s here are all bottled in threaded twist bottles which I read is quite difficult to cap.

I was also thinking of priming in used PET coke bottles. But all I can think of is how soda became 'sugarwater' once opened and left for a week or two. Maybe because it does not provide proper seal.

Is there any other option? or some ideas perhaps?

Help guys.
I really need this...

breaking the law in a country that is very hot, deserted and well known for petroleum is punishable by prison and caning

if you are "suffering" then you need help with an addiction, not alcohol production

personally, I'd rather suffer withdrawals than have to deal with getting my a$$ beat with a stick

Use soda bottles, and there are very basic kits with either liquid or dry malt extract, dry yeast and pellet hops, that make very decent beer. You can get 1 gallon, and 5 gallon kits. Naturally the smaller kits would be the easiest to transport and prepare. I would imagine that steering clear of the laws of the land would require keeping your brewing, and consumption very close to the vest. My Son was working in the same area of the world with the same prohibitions, luckily for him, his company paid the right people to have their own "Lounge" with liquid refreshments. Sad that there are places on this earth that think beer is bad, but caning, and beheading is good.

Man, religious states with alcohol prohibition -- Saudi, Kansas on a Sunday ... just not worth it ... :)

Go party in Bahrain once in a while.

Frankly, I was expecting this kind of comment. I thank you very much for looking out and giving right advises to random buddy like me you find on the internet. Truly appreciate it.

Just for some clarifications, I'm not a addict(although I do know that no addicts admits they are one), I just miss that sip of a beer that was so refreshing after long day of work. As you know, this place is hot like devil's home and I happen to spend about a half of my working hours outdoor (sucks for me)

About the lawbreaking, I also feel bad. I do agree to the phrase
"when in Rome, do as the Romans do", but this just seems too absurd (I still know that it cannot be justified by any means).
One good thing is that I am living in a camp within a territory managed by private party(which is my company), which is not only located in very rural area but also isolated with outside high private security. So getting caught is very unlikely. There are actually a lot of people already making all kinds of alcoholic beverages with yeast, but no one ever tried to brew some beer since acquiring ingredients and equipment is extremely difficult here.

Don't use bottles that aren't designed to hold pressure. A pile of 900ml bottle bombs might get you some unwanted attention. Soda bottles all the way.

I thought this homebrew stuff went on in every compound?

Reasons we could never find honey packets in the chow hall. Those mead Brewers soaked it up pretty quickly. Care packages were always welcomed. It is amazing the creativity over there.
