Need advice for 250v circuit

Hi all,

I recently bought a used electrical setup (1500/110 x 3 in a stainless keg). I have a circuit in my garage that is 250v 50amp (for welding I suppose). Any ideas out there for converting this to be more homebrew friendly outlet, maybe 220v for stronger elements?

Just looking for ideas, I am no electrician and really dont know my options.

I also have 2 circuits that are 110 20amp.

You could have it feed another breaker box with a couple of 20 amp 240 volt circuit breakers, or three 15 amp 240 volt breakers, depending on what your new elements are rated at. If you still needed to use the welder you could use a plug to feed the new box.

I would expect the normal 240V elements to work fine, but IANAE (I am not an electrician).

Your description is really confusing.

That would (should) be a 240V 50A circuit.
Question.? Your outlet for that circuit ^, is it a 3 wire or 4 wire outlet?

No matter what, you certainly have the possibility of setting up an all electric brewery.

Keep talking about what you want to do with your brewery. I "think" I might be able to help with a setup. (Maybe)

Sorry for the confusion, I was just guessing what that circuit was used for as it was there when I bought the house.

You are correct, it is a 240v 50a circuit. I posted a pic on facebook and got this "It is a 240v 50a 3 wire outlet. It is typically used for electric ovens or welders. The type is nema 6-50"

I have been doing propane all grain for years, but this is the first time I will be doing electric. I have 3 burners in a keg that are 1500w run off of 110v. My thought was to connect 2 of them to controllers while using the 3rd to help get the temps up and disconnect once close and let the others maintain temps. Eventually, I think I will go to the 4500w single 220v heater I have seen online.

For the circuit, I was thinking of converting it to a 220v 30amp and an additional 110 circuit if possible (giving me 3 total 110v in the garage). This should give me some future expandability.

I am still putting together my plans for the specific setup, would appreciate you thoughts here.
