Obviously I need an extract recipe. More importantly I need it ASAP, heading to the LHBS in 30 minutes or so and decided just now that I'm going to brew this weekend. Also had a question, how will a stout handle 1 week in the primay and 3 in the secondary?

Actually, I did look through the recipe database but I didn't see many extract recipes and for the few that were posted I didn't see any responses as to how they turned out. I'm digging through the Recipator as I type this but I was looking for something someone had tried and could confirm that it's a good recipe. You just never know with these internet recipes.

Doh! Forgot about BYO's site. Between them and the Recipator I have a couple recipes to work off of so I think I'm set.

At my LHBS it all depends on who's working that day. Some of them are brewers, some winemakers and some just work there so they know the equipment and the basics behind how it works but have never brewed a batch in their life. I should also mention that my LHBS is technically a lawn and garden store that sells homebrew supplies.

As luck would have it a brewer was working AND they had a back issue if BYO from 2004 with a good stout recipe. I had to adjust it slightly due to the availability of certain items but it sounds really good. Guess I'll found out in a couple weeks.....or months! Thanks for the suggestions.

We only post recipes that we've tried and have come out good! We discourage "chit chat" in the recipe database, that's why there aren't any extra posts in there. People can rate them with "stars" if they want, but I don't know if anybody has done that.

That just sounds kinda odd!

Yeah, it's a little different. But, it's the only HBS in the area. There may be more up in Michigan but I haven't really checked. This place is local, carries almost everything you could need and the prices are right. They've actually been in business, as a lawn and garden store, for decades. The owner got into homebrewing 10-15 years ago and decided to start carrying the merchandise shortly thereafter.
