I know this answer is somewhere in these threads but I just can't find it. Sorry for redundancy.
I currently have a MyPin TD4 controlling my setup. Everything seems to be working perfect except the fact that once SV is reached, it continues to cycle the heating element. I'm not sure how far it would continue to go but I kept turning it off after it exceeded about 5º-8º past set point. I know how to get into manual mode and adjust on/off cycle percentage. I think I know how to turn on Auto Tune. I guess I'm just unsure of how to get this thing working. I Would love to run my pump and recirculate all my water while heating with my main gas burner until I get close to strike temp. At that point I want to turn on the heating element and let that maintain my mash temp. I've just been running it with water trying this scenario. When water is near 150, I shut off the gas and turn on the heating element. It will take it from 148 to 150 but then just keeps climbing. I was worried it was just residual heat being moved around but I could turn off the element and wait and it would start to fall again. I'd wait until it got near 148 and then clicked element on. It would just keep rising well past SV. (My setup is a large plastic MT that gravity feeds into the boil kettle, from there it goes to pump->RIMS tube-> back to MT, using pT100 probe, all wiring seems correct and working.)
Should I be mashing in Manual Mode or Regular Mode? My P, I and D settings are all at the default. Should I adjust them? I'm just curious if there is a good protocol for maintaining an accurate mash temp. I'm fairly convinced my problem lies in these PID settings but not sure where to start on resolving this issue.
Any thoughts?
