Mylar Space Blanket to insulate swamp cooler?

I was thinking about using a mylar space blanket to insulate my swamp cooler. I am thinking it will prolong the life of the ice bottles I add to it. I folded it 2 or 3 times, cut a hole in the top for the airlock and draped it over the whole thing.

Do you think this will work?

I think it may drop the temp a bit too...

I'll bet it raises the temp.

Fermentation is exothermic, a swamp cooler is all about wicking the heat away. The Mylar would keep it in.

Ah true. I was thinking about keeping the cold in. Didn't think about the yeast generating so much heat.

Hard to tell really, while the fermentation is exothermic, most of the heat lost goes into the swamp cooler, which is cooler than ambient, the ferm chamber tub is also cooler than ambient, and the wort is cooler than ambient. Too many variables to predict...

If ambient temp is hotter than both the wort and the swamp cooler, it just may help a little insulating from ambient as all ambient can do is heat the system, not cool it in any way.
