Had a spare fan, old hard drives, and a charger for an ancient cell phone laying around. My lovely girlfriend brought home a bunch of glassware from the lab that is no longer being used. It took a couple of months to get around to it, but now the build is complete and will create a small vortex on a 2L flask easily. Couldn't be happier. Plus, the fan glows blue!

The one in the pic is a 1/2" but I was running a 2" on the 2L flask last night and it worked great. Left it running for an hour, never threw the bar.

nicely done. just finished making mine about a week ago. had to buy parts for mine though :p

Awesome job. I have a 2" bar but it keeps getting thrown off. How did you balance it??

only way to balance it is to make sure you have the magnet on the fan dead center! if it is off center, then the stir bar will be off center. mine is not perfect in that regaurd, but I found adding more magnets solved it. it just holds on more.

I have a 1" bar, seems to work well.

I set the magnet on the fan until i got it in the right place moving it around before making it permanent. Took a little trial and error. Also getting it as close as possible to the flask helped. Eventually I want to step this up to be able to handle a 5gal carboy for a 3BBL batch of a tripel a buddy and I are planning on, but methinks I'll need a bigger everything.

Find a source on 8-10lb rare earth disc magnets. Mine works great at 2 litres with 2. A carboy should be no problem with like 10 at most.
