Dont know if im sold on the kettle or not yet...Its not a blichmann, just the hardware...Whatcha think? The couplings are a bit off and there are some dents in the kettle. worth the effort to return it (mail order)? Was thinking on just chilling the wort by using a cooler and ice water, but think i may have to use a copper wort chiller instead cause of the brewmomoter...any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

If you got it for a good price, i wouldn't worry about a couple of little dents, you will probably add some more of those in the future. if it was a high dollar kettle, then i would return it because those guys charge a premium for the quality. It looks like a great kettle in the pics, would look better full of wort, brew-on!:mug:

Looking good to me. Would recommend a chiller though now that you're going to be doing full boils (assuming that was the idea here).

Tis a beautiful piece, but for what those kettles cost, if you are not satisfied with the dents, I would suggest returning it for a refund or exchange. Unless you are mashing in the pot, the thermometer is not needed as much.

Thanks...no mashing, just strike and sparge water, and wort boil is what i will be using it for...Have a 10 gallon cooler for mash...I contacted the store, will probably see if i can at minimum get a discount or if not an exchange...

what kinda nipple do you suggest for the ball valve? A close or a hex nipple?

If these are what i think they are, im just about to order one. Not sure how i feel about those welded handles though...... Anyone have thoughts on that?

What do you mean the couplings are a bit off?

The couplings, the threaded parts that are welded onto the pot are not perfectly line up. So when I attach my brewmomoter it looks slanted a bit.

If it's any consolation, my Blichmanns came with a dent or two, and rust spots. They aint all that, trust me. As long as it holds wort it will make beer.

Well I contacted adventures in homebrewing last night about the dents, they just emailed me and there going to send out a new one no questions asked. Now that's what I call customer service....

Yeah there stuff is nice and shiny but all the blichmann stuff I have seems to have bypassed quality control department too...bummer:(

Hope you have some legs for that burner. :) Do you have the TopTier stand to go with it? The kettle looks pretty good, enjoy brewing in it.

I used weldless fittings for mine, centered the thermometer and offset the valve about 30 degrees. This was I could put the thermometer lower in the pot in case im heating a smaller amout of liquid, and also because I feel its more accurate. Also its not as cluttered
