My New Barrel

So i bought a new 5gal barrel off ebay the guy sells all sizes. It is new and the guy added the art shown in the pick below. So far he seems like a legit company and I will post a review and his ebay company and barrel once I get the product and its quality. It is brand new and has a spigot etc. I plan on placing a bunch of whiskey to be in the barrel for about a month then doing a chardonay in it to condition it for cask ales.

$124 shipped. I told him what I wanted and thats what he picked. I told him 4M Brewing and a head shot of a boston Terrier. I had to pay $16 for the Boston Terrier Headshot in addition, but the 4M Brewing was included. (So a total of $140). I will post a link to the ebay store once I have verified the product as I don't want people buying stuff on my recommendation that is not complete.

What's the variety of oak and the toast level? (american, french, hungarian/light, medium, heavy)

Do you know if there is a varnish or sealing coat on the outside? It looks like there may be, but it could be lighting.

As far as I know it is not varnished. I tis American Oak light to medium toast

Well I plan on starting with 5 gallons of whiskey for 2 months then do a primary fermentation of chardonnay to blow off the extra oak then I will do cask ales (using the cask as a keg).

their 20L barrel (5.3 gal) is $127. So about the same price I guess.

Yeah its pretty good, only problem is it was shilacked, but I have a brown ale in it now and it is damn good
