Hiya again, guys. Been using extract kits for a while now, and thought I'd move on to trying my hand at a recipe I created. Shooting for an English style ale here. I thought I'd post my recipe and see if anyone found any major issues with what I've got in mind.

Steeping Grain:

British Golden Promise .5 lbs

Fermentables:

1 lb Golden Light DME (60 min)
3.15 lbs Maris Otter Syrup (60 min)
3.15 lbs Maris Otter Syrup (20 min)

Hops:

2 oz UK Fuggle (60min)
1 oz UK Kent Goldings (1 min)

Yeast:

Wyeast 1945 NeoBritannia

Estimated IBU - 27.6
Estimated OG - 1.055

Looks good for the most part. I don't think you can steep Golden Promise though, it's a base malt that needs to be mashed. And at 1/2 lb, it might not offer much to the final product. You could do a mini-mash though and use that amount or more, it's not much harder than steeping, you just need to keep closer control over your temp. Take a look at this thread for a partial mash how-to: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-partial-mash-brewing-pics-75231/

Looks pretty straightforward. Go for it. Soak the golden promise for 45 mins at 155f. Remember to remove your brew pot from the flames when you add your extracts. Mix them in well, then return them to the heat. This prevents the malt from scorching the bottom of your brew pot.

If you are going to steep grains, you may want to add .5 of biscuit or victory for a little rounder malt/biscuit feel. Also, are you going for a particlar style? I don't think you would get a lot out of steeping only .5 golden promise.

Didn't think about that. Yeah, anything to round out the biscuit flavour of it would be a plus for sure. Can you think of any reason to use Wyeast 1187 Ringwood over NeoBritannia? They both seem to cover basically the same styles.

what color are you wanting in this?

I would add a bit more variety of steeping grains for more depth of flavor.

Either yeast choice will be lovely. ferment as low as you can with them

Brewers friend has a free beer calculator. It will also tell you if you fall into thr category you are shooting, if you care. I.e. English Pale, ESB, Bitter, IPA, etc.

Yep, I've been using BeerSmith 2 for that. I fall pretty cleanly within the bounds of an ESB.

Good. I hope your beer is great. If you wanted you could add the 2nd part of the LME with 5-10 minutes left in your boil. Some people think it gives a cleaner flavor. I don't have a lot of experience with LME.
