Hello, I have just completed my first ever brew. The brew I made was the northern brewer chinook IPA. Any how I was waiting for for the hot break before adding hops, however I’m not very experienced I just watch a lot of YouTube videos, I never had any considerable hot break. All I got was a thin layer of foam that started to clump up at the end of the boil. Any thoughts?

When it starts to boil, add the hops. Hot break isnt nearly as pronounced on extract brews (In my experience) but cold break is fairly obvious.

I made the Chinook IPA as my first brew as well. I have a video of the entire process on YouTube.

There really wans't a hot break. I only started to see what I would consider a hot break when I used larger amounts of DME. Amounts in the 5 or more pound range.

Keep at it. You'll get the hang of it after a few more batches.

In the process of making the malt extract, the wort was heated and hot break formed. There just isn't much left to happen when you brought you wort to a boil. You probably won't see much hot break until you go to all grain brewing.

I get a visible hot break with extract. Not as much as with all-grain, but very noticeable. Maybe it varies depending on the manufacturer and the specifics of their process.

Thanks I did watch your video before I made the IPA. Very informational.
