I am brewing for the first time today.

Canadian Blonde (Coopers)

I figured it would be best to keep it simple and get my first one in the books.

I hope it comes out good.

Wish me luck ! :mug:

Best of luck. Don't stress it too much. Have fun. I'm new to this hobby too. It gets very addictive. You'll love it

Congrats! My first brew was a partial mash in '08 and took six hours plus cleanup. 6 years later I have it down to 2!

Layout your ingredients in order and don't get to popping too many bottles until after the boil. I may or may not remember all of my first brewing day.

Lol yeah it is addictive. Sometimes I find myself spending ridiculous amounts of money on it. It's all for the love of the hobby and well worth it in the end. Have you considered taking a second job? J/k cheers man and welcome to the forum:mug:

Congratulations. I envy ones that are brewing as I am saving money to buy AG equipment.

Well I got it in the sink surrounded by ice and water. When it cools enough I'll pitch my yeast and put the airlock on it. And......wait and wait and wait. :mug:

That wait and wait and wait bit is right on the money. Good luck with that :p
Also welcome to hobby/obsession that keeps on giving and taking!

Have you thought of a Blow Off Tube?

Not trying to stress yo out here, just want to make sure that you have thought of it. Don't need a volcanic eruption for your first batch...:fro: Been their, done that. It's no biggee, just messy as hell.

Log it. My first kit was a couple cans of Blue Ribbon Malt, 5# of sugar and a couple of yeast cakes. This was 1972.

Ok, I got the yeast pitched and waiting for it to do it's thing.

I did check the specific gravity before pitching the yeast and it was 10.40 so it looks like I'm on track there.

I guess we'll see how it goes.

More waiting :rockin:

I am logging all of the details of the brew day. Hopefully it will turn out good and if so I want to be able to repeat it.

Congrats and it sounds like you are on the right track. As long as you took care to make sure everything was properly sanitized and your fermentation temps are good you will be fine.

Update...

Got up this morning and I have bubbling in the air-lock. It is bubbling once every 5 seconds or so.

I guess it's doing ok...

How does it smell?

I still remember the thrill I got from the slightly hoppy smell that was bubbling out of the air lock the morning after my first batch.

I remember my dogs being curious about it as well.

Glad to hear it didn't volcano on you... my Coopers Canadian Blonde batch blew so much foam out, it was ridiculous. Good thing I had the blow off tube on there to begin with. Of course, I added a bunch of DME/sugar (and hop schedule) to that batch.

Congrats on your first brew day. I hardly remember my two... I just remember waking up in the morning, everything cleaned and put away and fermenters bubbling away.

Patron shots and Ivan the Terrible = blackout city.

Well.....

I got home this evening from work and my fermentation vessel is now bubbling about 1 time per second. I took a whiff from the air lock and I smell BEER ! :ban:

Of course it is a little different as I used Vodka in the air lock but I do smell beer.

Now I just have to practice patience and let it do it's thing.

At least I didn't come home to a mess..... Lol. :rockin:

I love sniffing the airlock. Can't do it anymore as I have a fermentation chamber that would cause you to pass out if you sucked in a nose full of CO2 from it. Congratulations. Start planning your next brew right away. Help keep your mind and hands of the batch you just made.

Yep, I am going to do a Coopers Wheat Beer next with a Belgium kick.

I am going to add bitter orange peel and coriander as well as an extra 2 lbs. of light malt extract to the Coopers kit.
