Tonight, I've determined that my first beer is just about in the books. A few weeks ago, I set out on my brewing adventure, starting with a honey brown ale with ginger that I called the Bee's Knees. After dealing with a leaky brewing kettle and an interrupted bottling process (thanks to a surprise Descendents show!!!!), the fruits of my labor are potable and delicious. I'll wait a few more days for the carbonation to reach a more perfect level, but I'm ready to call my first brew a success. It tastes good, it's a beautiful color, and it's got more of a kick than I thought it would.

The maltiness and the honey come across quite strong on both the nose and the taste, but the ginger is really only present on the nose. If I do this one again, I'll use more, or add it to the bucket instead of including it in the boil (any tips there, actually?).

Wait a damn minute. The Descendents played a surprise show at your house? Jerk.

ALL!! NO, ALL!!!

Hahaha I wish! It was one of those "I have an extra ticket, we're leaving right now" occasions. The venue was tiny though. It may as well have been my house.
