Everywhere I've looked online and in books seems to tell me that my beginner beermaking kit is missing an auto siphon. I've been playing with the tubes and haven't been able to figure out how I was supposed to get siphon with my kit, assuming that the problem was me, not the kit. I am now convinced that the basic Beer Brewing Equipment Kit from Brewer's Best is flawed.

All is not lost however. My wife suggested we use one of those booger-extractor devices used on babies to create a siphon. It worked just fine. Someone please tell me we're not the first ones to try this.

put water/sanitizer in the tube. When it drains out the beer will follow and start the siphon.

5/16" can be easier than 3/8", make the hose as short as possible. Extra hose just means its harder to get vacuum.

+1 ^^^

You don't need an auto-siphon, you just need physics. And physics is all around you! :)

Whether you were supposed to get one in the kit and it wasn't sent to you is a different matter, I'm sure if it was advertised as part of the package NB would make it right if you called them or emailed them. But if you've got tubing, you've got a siphon.

Thanks, I certainly wasn't going to figure that one out on my own. I can put away the booger puller device now.

I've been on the Internet too long . . . I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. You're welcome? Sorry? Whatever, as long as you got your question answered. :)

If you can siphon gas, you can siphon beer. An auto siphon is VERY helpful but a regular racking cane does the job too.

total sarcasm. I re-read the post and I can see how rude I might have come across. Half serious that I probably wouldn't have figured out how to get a siphon without asking:) Thank you for the help.

The kit I got when I first started didn't come with an auto-siphon, just a racking cane. If your kit was advertised as having one then contact whoever you got it from, but they don't all come with one. That said I bought one before my second batch and would recommend you do the same. Makes life so much easier.
