I have three BigMouthBubblers; all are ported with a spigot. I've never quite trusted the cleaning process of the spigot using PBW and a Mark II carboy cleaner, even if I just let it sit submerging the spigot.

So, every time, I remove the spigot from the fermenter, clean it separately by soaking and a brush, and reinstall it. Too many nooks and crannies for me to trust cleaning in place.

It's not a big deal to do, as the BMB has such a wide mouth. I can reach all the way in there easily.

Been looking at the Morebeer Fermonster. They now have a ported version w/ a spigot. These are cheaper than the ported BMB, buy two and shipping is free, and the lids appear to be much better.

HOWEVER--can one really reach to the bottom to remove and reinstall the spigot? This looks like a great upgrade on the BMB, as long as I can reach the bottom.

just got my 6 gallon fermonsters today. I installed the spigots with zero issue. My arm easily fits in the opening all the way to the bottom. I would not balk at removing the spigots for a solid cleaning every few batches.

I would definitely remove, clean and sanitize the spigots after each batch. Then sanitize and assemble wet right before pouring in the new batch.

There are lots of crevices, threads and other narrow spaces where bugs thrive on that little sweet wort or beer that make in there. The gasketed system alone is a bug trap.

I recently bought the 7 gallon fermonster without a spicket. However I'm thinking about putting one on. Does the location seem to clear the yeastcake? Any thoughts?

My 7g ported fermonster arrived today. Not only can you reach in to reinstall it, the spigot is packaged separately and you HAVE to reach in to attach it in the first place.

I will say that it was a snug fit for my arm--not difficult or problematic in any way, and I'm a bit... Ahem... Big boned. ;) but I would imagine that a body builder type, or someone who is very heavy set MIGHT have trouble.

Now if only I can figure out how the lid gasket works.... It's a bit too big to fit the way I would expect it to...

4". I can easily reach the bottom, but it was snug enough that for a second I thought I might not. it's not like I have to jam it in or anything like that.

I can almost, but not quite get the heel of my palm to the bottom. But there isn't any part that I can't comfortably reach well enough to clean or anything like that.

I just purchased one of these and I agree with the size of the o-ring being a bit larger than expected but I just went around it with fingertips until it stayed inside groove. Did not have issues.
However, I also bought a unit with a spigot and that leaked, despite being tight. Did anyone else have same issue? I need to know if it could be a defect or was given the incorrect spigot.

Sometimes the problem w/ leaks is that it's TOO tight--such that the washer or gasket is being deformed too much.

Had that problem w/ the spigot on one of my BMBs--I just backed the plastic nut off and retightened, albeit not as much.
