I thought I saw something that looked like mold (white, circular, dry-looking/almost fuzzy) forming on top of the new baby SCOBY in my batch of KT. However when I looked at it a week later it was gone and the SCOBY looked completely normal! The smell is normal and so is the taste (I tasted a miniscule amount out of curiosity). As far as I can tell it is perfectly healthy booch just like the dozens of other batches I've done.

Anyone have experiences like this? Is it possible for mold to completely disappear?

Ha, Same happened with me last week. I'm quite new at this so I'm waiting to read what others say. It was a white little mould with fuzzy tentacles but after I moved the jar it disappeared. Also, after it was gone I added a little vinegar.

If your pH is less than 5 or 6 then it's unlikely that is is mold. Also, keep the temperature above 70F. I keep my fermentation at a pH of 5 and a temperature of 78F. No mold ever.
