I bought a freezer and hooked up a temp controller to it. I noticed that after a few weeks I developed mld on the idside of the freezer and on and around the carboy and all over the carboy strap carrier.

What causes this and is there a way to stop it from happening?

My beer had a air lock and was unaffected. but I had to scrub and bleach out the freezer which was a pain in the ass...

With a freezer, you must open it periodically to allow fresh air to circulate and moisture to evaporate/escape. If I happen to go more than a week or two without opening my keezer, I will have the first signs of growth. You can help combat the issue by using a moisture absorbing product. I.E. Dry Paks, Damp Rid, Shamwow... jk about that last one.
