I recently brewed an MO/Amarillo SMaSH and was very happy with the results. The MO gave the beer a nice bready, thicker taste than the very light color of the beer would suggest.

I will be doing another MO SMaSH, perhaps with Cascade, but I would like to add a bit of color. I know it would no longer be SMaSH, but who cares, it's home brewing. What would be the best grain to compliment MO? Is Crystal 60 alright?

If you don't care about it being a SMaSH, why not just do a Mirror Pond Clone using the MO: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/mirror-pond-pale-ale-clone-70466/. It's essentially MO + Cascade/Centennial + Crystal 40 (plus a bit of Carapils for head retention). The result makes for some real good drinking!

I guess I was looking for the best grain to add a hint of color and mesh well with MO. Looks like any of the Crystals will be fine.

if you just want some color without any flavor impact add a small amount of a very dark grain (1-2oz), roasted barley, dehusked carafa etc

any crystal malt is going to change the flavor
