I am building a kegerator and so far I have my box, tower, and faucet setup.

The real issue I am having is with the mini fridge coils.

I destroyed a mini fridge I had from college. All the components work I had to gut the thing to get the coils out.

The issue I am having is the safety concern with where to place those coils so that I avoid starting a fair and burning my house down :)

I built mine out of mdf, planning on finishing it later and figured until I do I can have something not terrible to look at.

Should I be concerned with the heat of the coils touching the wood? Or should there be a concern if I move the coils inside, in a separate chamber from the cold side?

Thanks for the advice!

Dear god I hope the coils aren't getting warm enough to start a fire. Even if immersed in gasoline.

The coils on the high end shouldn't be hitting more than about 135-150F. I would straighten them the best you can. A suggestion would be to get a couple of pieces of angle iron and wrap the coils between the two pieces to maximize airflow between. If you don't want it looking ugly, make a shroud to cover it with the bottom open and the rear with downward facing slats, like a vent cover. If passive cooling doesn't seem to be enough, a simple 120mm computer fan at the bottom pulling air in over the coil can speed cooling and increase efficiency significantly.

Thanks!

Yeah I was planning on using the whole in the bottom to add a fan.
