I've got a Milwaukee MW 102 pH meter. Whatever buffering solution that was in the probe 'vial' is now gone. What solution do I put in there? The 4.01 or the 7.01? Is it bad if the probe sits in there dry? (I'm obviously under the assumption that there is supposed to be some sort of liquid in there, I might be wrong)

I just learned that apparently a 3M solution of potassium chloride is what's used...And as far as i know, it's bad to let it dry out...that's why they all have sealed containers for the probe to store in liquid...

personally i've used both the 4, 7, and tap water. and my probe seems to work just fine after 5 years...Has gotten a little slower though, gotta swirl for about 5-10 secs to get a good reading...i have a MW-101 with manual cal though....

lol, Antartica? no wonder your homebrewing..must not be to many liquor stores there! do you make a lot of lagers? :)
