Can someone let me know if they have had good results from AHS in regards to brewing with their milled grain?

I don't have my own mill, and this is the first time that I have ordered milled grains from AHS. It looks like the grains are just barely cracked compared with grains that I get milled at my local.

Have any of you had good or bad experience with their mill?

Here are a couple of pics. It's about 13lbs of grain. This is for an all-grain recipe, not for steeping.

I just got my order in from AHS as well...my grain looks the same way.....I hope it is all good because this will be my first all grain attempt and I don't want to be screwed before I even start.

Sorry no help here but I am interested in some anwsers.

I brewed my first all grain batch with grain from AHS and got 82% efficiency.

Batch sparged. 10 gallon cooler MLT with a CPVC manifold.

Well that gives me something to shoot for! I have basically the same setup but with a SS braided line instead of CPVC manifold....I will post results tomorrow (hopefully)

Thanks Rick.

No problem. (By the way, with the second all-grain batch, same equipment, I got 75%. I figure as long as it's at least 70%, I'm happy.)

In those pics, the crush looks horrible. I dont see how anyone would get 82% out of that.

This gets me 82% all the time, this is the BC standard gap setting.

Crush on the aforementioned 82% batch... pic's not great, sorry...

Send a photo to Forrest, he will make it right. Something happened, that cannot be sold as crushed grain. No amount of mashing will help you with a crush like that.

If you take say, 1/8 cup of those grains and pour them out, what % would you say is NOT crushed at all. Looks like there are plenty of whole kernels

thanks guys, that is what I suspected. Looks like I'm off to get a mill much sooner than anticipated.

Send me an email with your name an order number and I will make it right. I will take a look at the mill and talk to the person who milled your grain. This is not normal.
