I won't have easy access to a computer for a cpl days and stuck using this phone so browsing is not that easy.

Yesterday I ordered a monster mill 3 and while I wait on it to be delivered was hoping to be deciding on what to mount it down to and power it with.

I was hoping I could get a recommendation for motor and pulley sizes to use. I have not started shopping for those parts yet.

Thanks for any recommendations.

I am still running a cheap barley crusher that I picked up a few years ago. I built a cart and motor figuring that I would soon be upgrading.

I am running a 2" diameter pulley on the motor and 12" diameter pulley on the mill. The motor is a 1/6 HP motor that I pulled off of an old drill press that I picked up at a garage sale for $20. It is a little under powered, but I have found a roller gap that gives me a good crush (I am a BIAB brewer) and doesn't bog down the motor. My motor turns at 1750 RPM, so with a 2/12 reduction I get about 290 RPM at the mill. That is a little fast for my little mill, but again I get a pretty good crush. I am doing BIAB so the crush is less important, I just crush the **** out of it and don't worry about stuck sparges.

I would suggest that with your mill you will want at least 1/2 HP.

I run my MM3 with an 11" pulley on the mill and a 1.5" pulley on a 1 HP harbor freight motor. It works very well. I did replace my wing set screws with hex set screws so I would have anything protruding and the Allen heads I feel allow me to get a bit more torque to prevent the cam from slipping. I crush at a .040" gap and went from 70% to 80% efficiency when I started by own milling.

I mounted mine a piece of mdf with a 1x1 steel angle on each side.
