Hey guys! Trying my hand at my mead and I'm worried it's gone moldy. I've made two batches of honey mead and both came out fine. When we started the batch it had elderberries and cranberries in it. When we moved it to the secondary carboy my husband added oranges into it.
About two months ago, Hubs said the airlock "fell out" and he sanitized it and put it back.
I check it about once a week and noticed today there was a white, dusty clump in it. I was going to rack it and bottle it this weekend but if it's moldy I don't know if there's a way to salvage it.

Pictures attached. Three are the suspect carboy. One is a second carboy from the same primary batch.

How's the taste? Chances are it's not ruined, but best bet would be to stabilize and rack off, leaving the white stuff behind. I would rack into a sanitized container with some sulfite added to the container, and seal the bottle. Only your tongue will tell if it's off.

I'd agree to Toxxyc. Also recommend to add some cinnamon powder as cinnamon is well known anti-fungal and anti-bacterial & also is natural. It can also enhance aroma.

+1 Toxxyc and be real careful to leave any Lee's and the top inch or so of liquid. You will lose some volume but less likely to bring in a large colony of whatever is growing that might overwhelm your sulfite.

I would almost take a clean swab or paper towels and try to blot some or all of it up/out before sticking your siphon in, no point in pushing it down
