Maximum grain in a coleman xtreme 70

Since this seems to be a popular cooler, I'm sure someone has pushed it to the max. How much grain can realistically be put in this assuming a 1.25qt/lb strike?

I realize that the manifold could impact this, but probably not by much. The how big your mash tun thread would suggest it would take around 42 lbs, just wondering what is realistic, as I plan on doing some very high gravity 10gallon batches in the future.

Well, my MLT is the Colman extreme 36qt model. I batch sparge & I always do a Mash-out infusion (so my total hot water volume makes my water ratio more than the standard 1.25/qts per pound).

I'm finding that I max out around 16.75lbs of grains - at that point I can't close the cooler lid becuase the water level is at the very top after I add my mash out infusion.

That's a long winded way to say that I'd guess you could do 33.5lbs or slightly more in a MLT that is essentially twice the size of what I use.

I have done 40lbs at 1.3 qts per pound, It was right to the rim at that ratio.

Thanks for the help guys, I kind of figured I wouldn't want to go over 40lbs. That should be plenty for now, and I'll have to keep an eye out for a 100 quart to go on sale cheap.

I had 21 lbs in mine. ...about half full of dry crushed grain.
