I have a beer planned, and it is the first time I am going to use any flaked grain. I am using flaked rye at 14.3% of the grain bill, with two row and crystal making up the remainder. Is there anything special that needs to be done with the mash due to the flaked rye, or do I simply mash as normal? Thanks in advance.

No, you dont even need to mill flaked grains but I toss them in with all the other grains and it goes through the mill anyway...

I have used about 15% flaked rye in a recipe. Definitely use rice hulls. Also, it seemed to produce a lot of bubbles in the mash and kettle to the extent that I thought there was soap still in the mash tun. There wasn't.
