Mash paddle question...

Found me a nice piece of maple the other day and am in the design phase of a mash paddle... The $50k question is, do I treat it with block oil or just go au natural?

Seem to find conflicting advice for each side...

I've sold a few mash paddles on here.
The ones I made were out of white oak, and I always used block oil on them.

They seemed to dry out real fast if I didn't use the oil.
