Mash Paddle Food Safe Finish

You're only using the mash paddle (I assume) pre-boil, so you can just clean it like you would any wooden spoon. It doesn't need to be sanitized.
 
Actually I would like to make a long paddle to reach to the bottom of my 5 gallon cylindrical mash tun. Probably be 24". Course the mash is then about 155F.

There are food safe wood finishes such as:

It's mostly tung oil. I have my reservations on how well it will hold up to the heat but it should satisfy what you want to do. It can also be used on any other wood cookware or wood project you want an oil type finish.
