I am going to convert the AG recipe for the sculpin IPA to a mini mash my pot can handle it calls for 1oz of Amarillo to be added during the mash I have never herd of this. Has anyone ever done this is it worth it or not? If not should I just add the hops during the FWH addition?

i'd just first wort them to be honest, im gonna do this recipe too soo ag style , i love sculpin

It works very differently than fwh or boil additions. since your mash temp isn't quite at a high enough temp to really pull the bitterness out. It'll give a different flavor but it's not a great technique for bittering. If you want to stay true to the recipe then mash it if you want a lot more bitterness then fwh.
 
I am currently drinking a sculpin right now and it is amazing it is not overly bitter to me so I think I am going to do the mash hop to not offset the amount of bitterness.

Mash hops don't get boiled. You would be better off making hop tea than doing FWH if you're trying to replicate mash hops in an extract brew.
 
I've read of the "mashed hop" technique but for the life of me I still don't understand the point. Whatever comes out of the mash tun is going to be exposed to the full boil, so there's like zero chance of any aroma - and pretty close to zero for any flavor - surviving, so what's the benefit over FWH?

I have no experience about this technique but I doubt you would tell a difference with only one ounce in the mash . I would think you would need two or three to really pick up any flavor or whatever it does. I don't see much point doing this but maybe it helps other brewers feel better about there beer and being a little different.
