There is a video on Youtube whereby a Mash and Boil owner measures the volume of its boil kettle and finds it to be nearly 10 gallon. He claims the manufacturer's markings are way off.

Can anyone confirm what the actual Mash and Brew boil volume is ?

Thanks.

You can estimate yourself with a measuring tape. Measure the inside diameter of the kettle, measure the height of the kettle. Multiply 3.14 times the diameter in inches squared times the height in inches divided by 4 times 231. That will give you the volume in gallons of the kettle.

This is what I really like about this forum. I learn something new all the time. I should have paid more attention in Math class lol.

At the 1 minute mark, this guy says the Mash and Boil actually holds 10 gallons.

I've measured my M&B by pouring out of a measured pitcher and my marks are pretty much exactly 1/2 a gallon off on the low side. So if it shows 5 gallons I really have 5.5. I believe the marks go up to 7.5, but there is still space above that. So 8.5 to 9 is possible up to the brim. 10 seems like a stretch.

Yes, the pre etched markings on some (many?) brands of kettles are not very accurate. It's good to know that one gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs/3.78 kg. That should help you make your markings very accurate. Also useful for calculating your losses
