I'm new to the homebrewing world and on my secod batch I made a Maple Brown Ale. I make maple syrup in the spring, so I took a Brewer's Best English Brown Ale kit and added a quart of Maple syrup in the last 10 minutes of boil. The beers turned out good, but there is a slight hint of "alcoholish" taste. Almost like rubbing alcohol. Is this from the extra sugar from the syrup? To do it again, should I cut back on the malt a bit?
Thanks

It certainly can be from the syrup, it will attenuate almost completely. What was your OG? Too warm fermentation temps can also produce an alcohol/solvent flavor.

I'm very interested in doing this as well. I also make maple syrup and had never heard of anyone using it in their beer but wanted to give it a try. How much syrup did you use, I'm thinking of trying it with a pound and adding it late as you did.

The alcohol taste will subside w/ time. I don't think that adding maple syrup into your wort will do much for taste, like smiz said, it will attenuate almost completely - meaning that the yeast will eat all of it and just increase your abv%.
