I've got two Brew House Pilsner kits on the go, both completely fermented and clearing nicely in their carboys. That is until about three days ago when I noticed one batch developing white pools on the surface. The surface is now about 60% covered with this residue. Upon gently sloshing the carboy the white residue will cling to the side of the glass, so I believe it is something cellular. The 'infected' batch still seems to be clearing properly, albeit more slowly than the good batch, which has no sign of anything on the surface and now appears to be ready. I quickly popped off the airlock of each to compare aromas and both smelled the same.

I am always careful to clean, sanitise, and fully rinse everything beforehand and this has never happened before. I do use the containers for many brews, including wine (please don't shoot), and possibly I slipped up somehow.

Could this be some sort of yeast infection, or could it be something else? Is there anything I should add to try to remedy this or should I let it ride? I'd hate to have to flush this batch.

I was planning on racking both batches into a single 50 L keg but I am now reluctant to do so in fear of ruining the whole lot.

Suggestions?

And here I was thinking it was going to be IRS Audit, or Proctology Exam . I'd agree with Sudster, if it smells god, it probably is. Is there any way you could skim it off? Aquarium net, maybe?

Just exactly what does God smell like?

rboulter, tell me how that BH kit tastes... I haven't done that one.

It should be fine! When you rack to your secondary just leave that scum, mold what ever it is in the primary and dump down the drain.Taste them both and see if there the same then mix if you like. :drunk: Good Luck!
