His thorough description of the process and pitfalls has inspired many homebrewers (myself included) to completely abandon any plans of malting our own barley.

Some day I think I will do a very small amount just do say a batch of my beer has barley in it grown by my family, on our farm, and malted by me. But I bet it is a lot of work.
