making starter

Hi, Is yeast nutrient necessary for preparing starter, is it possible to make starter without nutrient? as my recipe I need 2 liters starter.

Supplemental yeast nutrient is ideal but not necessary.

If you don't have any nutrients, you got any bread yeast? Just toss some in when you boil your extract.

Not necessary but ive noticed when making a starter the activity start MUCH faster than when i dont use it. But i dont think its an absolute necessity.

WYeast comes with a nutrient bubble inside their smack packs. Definitely smack it!

The starter wort should contain most of the essentials. Use regular, dechlorinated tap water, unless it's hard.
Good oxygenation/aeration/agitation is probably more important.

Never used it. Probably never will. I use straight RO water and DME for my starters and always have good results, both stirred and shaken.
